The next question to ask is what are you particularly good at doing? Where those 2 intersect is what Sir Ken Robinson calls “The Element.”  In the ideal world, if you can find your element you really will love what you do. This is where passion and aptitude meet.

Unfortunately it isn’t always easy to arrive at this place. You may be very familiar with what you love to do, but don’t think you are very good at doing it. On the other hand you may be exceptionally good at something, but really hate when you have to do it. Neither of these would qualify. Don’t be afraid of pursuing an education in following your passion. Here is an inspiring “Ted talk” from the aforementioned Ken Robinson on creativity in education. It is worth your time if you are in school or involved in education.

If you are to the point of going to school, you should ideally have a sense of what your element may be. If not, looking for a unique career that pays well is a bit of a consolation prize. You can’t put your life on hold because you don’t know for certain what your dream career is. Rather, you have to make the best decision with the information you have available. This list isn’t exhaustive by any means, but keep your options open and volunteer, intern, network, and just keep meeting new people an experiencing new things. Eventually, you’ll find that thing which just feels right.
